I picked this short little story up at E. Shaver booksellers on my trip to Savannah. It is a small blue book with woodcut illustrations. It even came with a little envelope to mail it off to someone, but of course I was keeping this one for myself. A little late for Christmas but a great short story to curl up with on a cold night. I read this story out loud on New Years Eve. A Child’s Christmas in Wales recounts the author’s Christmas memories growing up in a small Welsh town. In his lyrical retelling the stories mesh and mingle as an excited little boy tells us about adventures in the snow with his friends and warm family memories. Just like someone trying to tell a story all in one breath the stories fly by and change focus so quickly, it’s difficult to tell which adventures happened in the same year and which occurred a few years a part. This would be a great story to re-read every Christmas.
